ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland Democratic Party Chair Steuart Pittman and Vice Chair Dr. Charlene Dukes released the following statement on the xenophobic remarks from Delegate Mark Fisher and Delegate Brian Chisholm:
The Maryland Democratic Party unequivocally condemns the hateful and disgraceful comments made by Delegates Fisher and Chisholm. Their actions crossed the line and do not reflect the values of Maryland.
Delegate Wu is a dedicated public servant who has worked hard for his constituents and for the state of Maryland. Every Marylander, regardless of where they were born, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
At a time when Marylanders want leaders focused on lowering costs, protecting our communities, and creating opportunity, this type of rhetoric creates division and distracts from the work people expect their elected officials to do.
Maryland’s diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Xenophobia and hateful rhetoric have no place in our politics, our communities, or our state.
