Maryland State Retirement Agency welcomes Marlene Timberlake D’Adamo as EDGE Managing Director

BALTIMORE – The Maryland State Retirement Agency announced today that Marlene Timberlake D’Adamo, J.D., has been appointed Managing Director of EDGE (Emerging Managers, Durable Capital, and Governance Excellence). Timberlake D’Adamo will begin her new role on April 29, 2026.

In this newly created position, Timberlake D’Adamo will help shape how the Agency stewards capital on behalf of Maryland’s public servants by advancing its Terra Maria Emerging Manager program, strengthening innovation and durable long-term investing, enhancing corporate governance and proxy oversight, and reinforcing a culture of disciplined compliance. Reporting directly to CIO Dianne Sandoval, Timberlake D’Adamo will lead a high-impact team and work across asset classes to ensure excellence in innovation, governance, and fiduciary execution.

A seasoned executive with more than two decades of experience operating in regulated environments and specializing in investments, financial operations, risk management, compliance, and corporate governance, Timberlake D’Adamo brings to Maryland a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams. She previously served as Chief Compliance Officer, Interim Chief Financial Officer and Chief DEI Officer at CalPERS, the nation’s largest public pension fund.

Prior to joining CalPERS, Timberlake D’Adamo served as Managing Director, Portfolio and Risk Management, at PNC Bank where she had responsibility for a $160 billion investment platform across four independent business lines. While there, she led and managed projects that resulted in improved investment performance, significant operational efficiencies, risk reduction and the retention of several large client relationships. Timberlake D’Adamo previously was Compliance Officer at Glenmede Investment Management, a $20 billion SEC Registered Investment Advisor, and Bank Secrecy Act Officer at Glenmede Trust.

Timberlake D’Adamo is Chair of the CFA Institute’s Inclusion Steering Committee and Chair of the Advisory Board for Legal Momentum. She previously served as a Board Member to the Committee of Seventy and the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia and has been recognized for her leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion by Institutional Investor (2022).

Licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Timberlake D’Adamo received a BA in political science from Seton Hall University and a JD degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law.

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is charged with the fiduciary responsibility for properly administering the retirement and pension allowances of more than 177,000 retirees and beneficiaries as well as the future benefits for more than 250,000 active and former members. These groups include state government employees, teachers, law enforcement personnel, legislators, judges, local government employees and fire fighters whose employers have elected to participate in the system.
