(EASTON, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested a Dorchester County man on attempted murder charges after firing shots at a trooper responding to reports of a disturbance.
The accused is identified as Armond Darel Jolley, 46, of Vienna, Maryland. Following consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Dorchester County, Jolley was charged with attempted first-degree murder and other related criminal charges. At 10:20pm last night, a Maryland State Trooper from the Easton Barrack responded to a residence in the 100 block of Middle Street in Vienna for a reported disturbance. Upon his arrival, the trooper approached the front door of the home which was open and made contact with an African-American man standing inside what appeared to be the living room. The trooper requested to speak to the man who then disappeared into the home. Moments later the man returned with a gun and fired multiple shots towards the trooper. He then fled the scene.
The trooper did not return fire and retreated to cover while requesting additional units to respond to the area. The trooper was uninjured in the shooting.
Maryland State Troopers from the Easton Barrack immediately secured the perimeter and conducted neighborhood checks, canvasing the area. Approximately twenty minutes after the shooting, the suspect was located near Water Street directly behind the home. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect, later identified as Jolley, was taken into police custody without further incident.
Maryland State Police from the Easton Barrack responded to the scene along with troopers from the Criminal Enforcement Division, the Underwater Recovery Team, members of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office. Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division also responded to process the scene for evidence.
